Water Conservation Tips for Sprinkler Systems

1. Retrofit existing systems with new technology. Your investment will pay for its self

2. Design for different plants. Not everything needs the same amount of water.

3. Use pressure regulating devices. Every 5 psi reduction in water pressure reduces water usage by 6-8%. Savings can be over 50% for a 70 psi spray zone that should be running at 30psi.

4. Use check valve systems to stop water draining out of systems.

5. Use high efficiency nozzles that spray evenly.

6. Use drip irrigation in non turf areas. Drip delivers precise amounts of water slowly and evenly at the plants roots, eliminating water waste, run-off and over spray.

7. Use flow meter devices.

8. Use an automatic shutoff like rain sensor or a moisture meter. This can result in a 15-20% savings.

9. Install automatic controllers with water-conserving functions.

10. For commercial sites tie all controllers to one central point and track water usage on graphs. Can save 15-20% on average if used properly. From the graphs you can monitor zones that may have heads that have been kicked off or mainline breaks.

11. Set sprinklers to water early in the morning. Set sprinklers to water between 5am and 1oam. Less chance of it being evaporated.

BACK FLOW THEFT DEVICE

Everyday I here of more and more backflows been stolen. After having 6 backflows been stolen on my properties I decided that we needed to protect them. Ecolandcare offers a free replacement of backflow if it is stolen with one of our security devices on it. Call (859)797-9636 or email info@ecolandcare.com.

The Sentry SC75-200 (patent pending) can be mounted directly on the backflow valve. The base is steel constructed with the base anchorage extending completely through the unit. The heavy galvanized steel cable will securely clamp and conform to the irregular shapes and pipe sizes. The foundation anchorage is sized to hold a building down and is the structural engineers preferred method in the building construction industry. Zinc coated and powder painted to last. The Sentry SC75-200 may be mounted to an existing concrete slab with the same anchorage system by drilling concrete slab and using Simpson Set 22 Epoxy. A highly proven method and again the structural engineers preferred method. To complete the installation you will also need 4 bags of ready mix concrete. Note:For maximum security we recommend where union is present install a Union Guard and Secure #1 Lock Note: When using one (1) SC and when union is above grade always use a Union Guard.

  • Two men charged with stealing meters in Broward, Miami Dade counties. 2016-11-08 09:34:33

March 2008 PLANTATION, FL – State and local fire officials announced the results of an investigation Thursday that led to the arrests of two men accused of stealing hundreds of copper and brass meters from apartment buildings and stores in Broward and Miami-Dade counties. Both men have been charged with grand theft and tampering with fire equipment. The equipment are heavy items used in the sprinkler and standpipe systems outside buildings, fire officials have said. The devices have various uses, ranging from providing a quick hook-up for fire hoses when firefighters are responding to fires, to pumping water into sprinkler systems that extinguish fires inside of buildings. Having parts stolen or damaged delays firefighters’ responses and may require additional resources to extinguish or prevent a fire, they said. The backflow meters, which resemble pipes connected to water meters, were sold to a scrap metal yard for $30 to $40 a piece, according to the State Fire Marshal’s Office. The removal of these meters reduces the water pressure available to firefighters putting out blazes. Plantation officials became involved after they obtained a surveillance tape from a local store there showing a man allegedly removing a backflow meter. We at Backflow Theft Prevention not only will replace your stolen bypass meter’s at a lower cost than other companies charge, but we also Lock It Up!
